Popular Nigerian singer-songwriter, harmonica player, and
businessman, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D'banj opens up
about his career, his break-up with Don Jazzy and relationship status.
Speaking
on the split between him and his partner and long time friend Don
Jazzy, D'banj said the split has not affected his musical career in
anyway as he has been getting involved in many things such as the ONE
Campaign by Bono; an ambassador for agriculture in Nigeria, adding that
it was after the split he had his first global hit ‘Oliver Twist’ which
hit the top ten in the United Kingdom and other endorsements started
coming through, such as the theme song for Africa Cup of Nation ‘Top of
the world’.
He explained that his music and career are going great
as expected with his recent new video for one of the soundtracks for
‘Half of a Yellow Sun’.
He however described Don jazzy as one of
Nigeria’s most amazing producers and will continue to be so, adding that
he respects his work tremendously and he is also a long time friend and
brother.
On his relationship status, D'banj revealed he is single.
When
asked about rumours that he was dating the daughter of a rich
successful luxury brand owner, he said, "Rumours are rumours and they
will always exist."
On the biggest lesson he's learned through it all, D'banj replied, "I have learned one simple lesson, ‘Without God we are nothing."
He
advised upcoming musicians who want to attain international success to
continue to follow their dreams, be real and believe in God.
