10,000 Youth Storm Maiduguri Streets, Vow To Confront Boko Haram


Thousands of youths on Thursday thronged the streets of Maiduguri protesting against the increasing spate of attacks on Borno State by Boko Haram.

The youth, who first assembled at the popularly Ramat Square Ground, later moved to the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar   Elkanemi, saying they were willing to confront the terror group if given the go ahead. They said they were at the palace for Elkanemi’s blessings which, according to them, would give them success when fighting the terror sect.

The youth comprising mainly members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, said they had resolved to enter the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts of terrorists to hunt them down and bring an end to the attacks.

Twenty commercial banks in Nigeria have been restrained from honoring any withdrawal cheque from Dangote by the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday.

Sani Dangote, younger brother of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote and his brand, The Dansa Foods Limited and Bulk Pack Services Limited are undergoing a law suit from Union Bank.

Trial judge, Justice Okon Abang said that the restraining order will be in force from now till September 2014, the next hearing.

The Judge requested all banks involved to file affidavits declaring the defendants statement of accounts he has with them.

Ndigbo Tasks FG On Astralian Negotiator

The Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN) has urged the Federal Government to demand the full refund of all monies paid to the Australian hostage negotiator, Davis Stephen, for the release of the Chibok girls.

President of the group, Chief Udo Udeogaranya made this statement on Thursday, 4 September, 2014, saying that since the Australian has failed to secure the release of the school girls from Boko Haram insurgents, hence he should refund all monies paid to him.

Udeogaranya alleged that the negotiator having failed woefully in the assigned mission to free the abducted girls, instead resorted to name dropping as a decoy for services rendered.

It could be recalled that reports surfaced on the internet few days ago where Stephen was quoted to have told  ‘Arise TV’ that  during his negotiation for the release of the abducted girls in Chibok, Borno State, that some Boko Haram leaders told him names of sponsors of their activities.

Nigerian Military Begins Airstrike In Bama

The Nigerian military on Monday, 1 September, 2014, began airstrikes on Bama, Borno State’s second most important city,  following fierce fighting with Boko Haram insurgents, security officials informed.


It was gathered that attention was focused around the military barracks suspected to be the target of the insurgents.

Another source informed that military commanders had withdrawn ground troops that had earlier engaged the terrorists to allow the use of sweeping air attacks.

A Nigerian Senator, Khalifa Zanna, said that Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, killed  two of his nephew in their take over of the second largest town, Bama in Borno state.

Senator Zanna whose hometown happens to be Bama, told SaharaReporters today that the Islamist terrorist group, have chased out the Nigerian troops and taken full control of the town and local government area.
The senator who said the Boko Haram terrorist have been driving around in armored tanks and military pickup in Bama said the sect killed two of his nephews named Babagana Mala Zanna, 28, and Yusuf Mala Zanna, 20, after finding them in his brother’s house in Bama early yesterday morning.

BREAKING: Ebola In Kaduna State

There are reports that Kaduna state has recorded its first suspected case of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

A 19- year old Law student of the Ahmadu Bello University is has been diagnosed with the deadly Ebola virus in Kaduna.

The Public Relations Officer, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH, Bilyaminu Umar, confirming the Ebola case to Vanguard via phone, on Monday said the student has been admitted ABUTH, Shika, Zaria.

“I am presently not in town. But I can tell you that a law student who has been ill for some times, has shown signs of the Ebola fever. But we are still studying the development. He has already been quarantine. And all safety measures are in place. So there is no need for panic. I cannot tell you more than this” he said.

Boko Haram Takes Over Bama, Borno

The dreaded Boko Haram sect have reportedly taken over Bama, Borno state, according to Sahara Reporters.

The militants reportedly returned in full force, which led to some of the soldiers fleeing the town as the rest of the villagers to avoid being killed.
The Boko Haram sect, according to resident have taken complete control of the town and hoisted its flag in the city center.

Ebola Virus: 271 Under Surveillance - Minister

Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, on Monday, September 1 announced that 271 people suspected to have contracted the Ebola virus were under surveillance in Lagos and Port Harcourt.

Army Kills Over 50 Boko Haram Members In Fierce Battle

There are reports that more than 50 members of Boko Haram sect were, today, September 1, killed and several injured  following a fierce battle with the Nigerian Army.

The sect members were reportedly killed during an attack on Moraraba village, outskirts of Bama in Borno State. 

According to Vanguard, the assault started in the early hours of Monday at about 5.30am and the fierce battle lasted for over 5 hours.

NYSC Reduces Orientation Camp Over Ebola

In a bid to curb the spread of Ebola Virus in Nigeria, the directorate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that the 2014 Batch B orientation program will last for between 1 to 2 days instead of the usual 21-day program.

This is according to an advertorial published in a national daily on Saturday, 30 August, 2014, by NYSC management.

According to the advertorial, the reduced version of the 2014 Batch B orientation course will run between September 1 and  8, 2014.

Boko Haram invades Bama, meets resistance from Nigerian troops

Boko Haram militants this morning September 1st launched an attack on Bama, the largest city in Borno state with the aim of taking over the town. According to reports, the sect men arrived the town and started shooting mortars, RPGs and hurling grenades but they were fiercely resisted by Nigerian troops stationed in the village. According to Sahara Reporters, a fierce battle is currently going on there between the sect men and Nigerian troops.

The Emir of Bama and many of the residents have fled the city to the state capital, Maiduguri, to avoid being caught up in the crossfire. Bama is a very strategic city in Borno state with a lot of military hardware and it is believed that if the sect men capture Bama, it will be very easy for them to move into the state capital, Maiduguri.

Ebola: FG summons emergency meeting as Dr Enemuo's widow test positive


Abuja—An emergency National Council on Health, NCH, meeting is holding today in Abuja following the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, outside Lagos.

The meeting will be the third in series since the outbreak of the disease in West Africa.

This came as widow of Dr Ike Enemuo, who died of Ebola in Port Harcourt has also tested positive to the virus.

The NCH, which is the highest decision making body on health issues in Nigeria comprises the Minister of Health, the Minister of State for Health, all state Commissioners for Health and Permanent Secretaries Ministry of Health of the 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Vanguard gathered that deliberations are expected to focus on ongoing efforts to check the spread of the virus.
