Boko Haram Vows To Stop March 28 Election

Boko Haram has released a new video vowing to disrupt the 2015 general elections at all cost.

The video, according to Vanguard, was released on February 17, Tuesday, via the groups twitter handle.

In the video, Shekau who spoke in Hausa language was shown in front of a solid blue background, dressed in black and with an automatic weapon resting to his right.

He said: “This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it.”  Presumably referring to the polls scheduled for March 28.

He also claimed to have carried out the weekend attack in the northeast Nigerian city of Gombe, which the military says was repelled.

These latest threat by the sect comes hours after a suicide bomber attacked a restaurant along Damaturu road of Potiskum town, Yobe State, north east Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the security situation in the northeast of the country, which is Boko Haram’s strong hold was the reason why Nigeria’s general election initially scheduled for February 14 was postponed by six weeks, with the security services saying they needed more time to contain the insurgency in the region.
