WORLD CUP 2014: Stephen Keshi Speaks After France Vs Nigeria Match

Super eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi has spoken about the outcome of the France vs Nigeria match which ended with a defeat 2-0 which resulted in Nigeria failing to enter the next round.



Stephen Keshi who had before the game said: "My Boys Will Deal With France" when asked by BBC correspondent Shina Okeleji after the game if he will be staying on as coach replied saying: “I don’t know”.
Keshi said: “It was an important match, I don’t think we deserved to lose but that’s football.”
“We have shown we can compete at a high level, everyone saw it and I have no regrets.
“We played well even in defeat. My future? At the moment I don’t know. I still think we can improve a lot, we have a lot of young players” he said.

It was reported on June 23 that Stephen Keshi has agreed to a 2-year deal with South African Soccer Federation (SAFA) to manage the Bafana Bafana national team

Meanwhile Keshi while speaking at a recent press conference had said that Nigeria would not be the last country for him to coach, adding that he would like to proceed as Nigeria coach "if the terms are right".
Nigeria, however, will in September start playing qualifying games for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Oshiomhole Threatens Law Suit Against Authorities

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has threatened to sue any authority who attempts to infringe on his fundamental human rights if his right to movement from one place to another within the country is violated again.

According to ThisDay, the governor made this known at the weekend while playing host to the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Benin Airport Branch, who came to apologise for the barring of the governor’s chartered helicopter at the airport.

Responding, Oshiomhole disclosed that immediately after the incident, he called President Goodluck Jonathan to make some enquiries on the development, but noted that he was convinced the order to stop his helicopter from taking off from the airport didn’t come from the president.

"The next time I’m so interrupted, I will not fail to go to court and challenge the infringement on my fundamental rights to movement. We need to strengthen our democracy. We need to breathe air into our multi-party democracy," he said.

Enugu Churches Screen Worshippers to Prevent Terrorist Attacks

In the aftermath of foiled bombing attempt on Winner’s Chapel in Imo State, churches in Enugu have begun to take pre-cautionary measures to guard against potential attacks from Boko Haram insurgents.

For instance, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu conducts thorough screening of members before allowing them to enter church on Sundays, Vanguard reports. In addition, the church has reportedly banned women from carrying handbags into church.

Also, some Pentecostal churches in the state have acquired bomb-detecting equipment with which they screen all vehicles driven by worshippers into the premises. Some churches have also reportedly constructed iron barricades to stop insurgents from hitting church buildings with their vehicles. 

The recent arrest of over 400 alleged  insurgents in Abia State, further heightened Church leaders’ determination to beef up security in their respective churches.

Nigerian Military Arrests Businessman Involved In The Abduction of Chibok Girls

Below is a press release by the director of defense information, Major General Chris Olukolade.

A terrorists’ intelligence cell headed by a businessman who participated actively in the abduction of School Girls in Chibok has been busted by troops. The man, Babuji Ya’ari who is also a member of the Youth Vigilante Group popularly known as Civilian JTF which he uses as cover while remaining an active terrorist, also spearheaded the murder of the Emir of Gwoza. His main role in the group is to spy and gather information for the terrorists group.

Babuji has been coordinating several deadly attacks in Maiduguri since 2011, including the daring attacks on Customs and military locations as well as the planting of IEDs in several locations in the town.

The arrest of the businessman who is known to deal in tricycles has also yielded some vital information and facilitated the arrest of other members of the terrorists’ intelligence cell who are women. One of them, Hafsat Bako had earlier escaped to Gombe State to avoid suspicion but was tracked and arrested. Prior to her arrest, Hafsat coordinated the payment of other operatives on the payroll of the group. In her confession, she disclosed that a minimum of N10,000 is paid to each operative depending on the enormity of his task.

Update on yesterday's attack near Chibok: 48 killed, 5 churches razed

48 people have been confirmed dead while 5 churches including Cocin, EYN and Deeper Life Bible church were destroyed after Boko Haram men yesterday June 29th launched a four hour attack on Kwada, Karagau and Kautikari villages in Chibok, Borno state. The attack came two weeks after the sect men had written a letter to the Chibok community saying they should expect another attack from them. True to their word, they carried out their threat yesterday.

 

According to residents of the villages, the gunmen arrived in pickup vans and motorcycles and immediately went into worship centers where they shot indiscriminately at people conducting their Sunday worship service. They also pursued and killed those who tried running into the bushes. Continue..

 

Amos Bulus, a resident of one of the villages who spoke to Vanguard said;

"The attackers killed and burnt houses after attacking worshipers in five churches in Kwada, before moving to Kautikari less than 8 kilometres to Chibok town, killing and burning down people’s houses and property. The security operatives were not on ground to defend us. In fact, those who ran into the bush were pursued and killed by the murderers.” he said

Another resident, Peter Maina said he was called out from a Church service in Maiduguri, only to be informed that his brother was killed at Kwada when the insurgents attacked the village during church service.

 

Confirming the attack, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District said more efforts should be put in place by the Federal Government in fighting the insurgents

Nigerian singer and radio personality, Kefee Don Momoh popularly called Kefee who collapsed on a 14-hour flight to Chicago is dead.

The Sapele singer passed on in the early hours of today in an undisclosed American hospital.

An On-Air-Personality for Wazobia FM, Yaw who is a close friend of her husband, OAP Teddy Don Momoh confirmed the news on Wazobia Fm this morning, saying: “One our very own is dead. May her soul rest in peace.”

This is coming after it was reported on June 11, that she had woken up from her Coma.

On June 4, her husband, Teddy Don Momoh had gone on twitter to ask Nigerians to pray for her.

Meanwhile Kefee who was reported to be six-months pregnant according to a family source revealed she was diagnosed of having pre-eclampsia (pregnancy induced high blood pressure).

It will be recalled that on June 9 that a Nigerian doctor, Dr Adeyefa while speaking on her sickness said she might die as her chances of survival was low while urging Nigerians to pray for her as that's the only thing that can bring her out of the coma.

Residents Riot Over Sanusi's Emergence As Kano Emir

Some residents of Kano State on Sunday took to the street following the announcement of the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the Emir of Kano State.

A witness said the aggrieved residents at the Kofar Kudu area of the state, near the Emir’s palace started the riot as Sanusi was announced the successor to late Alhaji Ado Bayero.

He said the residents of the neighbouring streets trooped out to the palace area in opposition to the choice, shouting “Ba muso, ba muso”, meaning, “We don’t want, we don’t want” in apparent reference to the choice of Sanusi by the state government.

According to him, the angry residents set tyres on fire, mounted road blocks and started throwing stones at passing vehicles.

He said the situation was, however, quelled by the swift arrival of a detachment of police officers, Civil Defence officials as well as members of the state Hisbah.

Sanusi Is The New Emir Of Kano

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the expelled Central Bank of Nigeria Governor has emerged as the new Emir of Kano.



Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who made the announcement this afternoon, said the former Central Bank Governor was edged by four kingmakers from the Kano Emirate.

The recently ousted Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was turbaned as the Dan Majen Kano last two years by the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

The history of Dan Majen Kano title in the hierarchical traditional titles of the traditional institution of Kano Emirate dates back to the 16th century, exactly in 1509 when the then Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Kisoki appointed the first Dan Maje, that is, Dan Maje Ummaru.

This title continued to exist up to the time.Kano fell under the authority of colonialists after its invasion and from that time to date, Sanusi is the 10th Dan Maje of Kano.

Dan Maje title is 21st in the hierarchy in the over 60 District Heads and title holders in the Kano Emirate after the Magajin Gari title and followed by of Dan Kadai who is the 22nd in the hierarchy.

Parents and guardians have reacted to video, While some feared for the safety of their kids, other said that the new video gives them new hope that the girls are still alive and can be rescued.

Boko Haram Leader Abubakar Shekau had claimed in the video that majority of the girls have converted to islam and the ones who have not converted can be exchanged for their members detained in various prisons.

One of the abducted girls parent, Mallam Awana Babagana said :“I have seen the video but I couldn’t identify my daughter. I hope they are the ones, we will keep on praying until they are released.”

However another unnamed parent said he watched the video but couldn't identify any of his missing daughters, he raised questions concerning the validity of the video.

Another parent who talked to Telegraph of London said that he will rather have his daughter perish than change religion, He said: “I have not yet seen the video, but I am not really interested in what Boko Haram’s demands are,”.  “My daughter is a Christian, she will never change. I would rather she died as a Christian than convert to Islam.”

Asari Dokubo Says: "No Girls Are Missing, Chibok Is A Scam"

The leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Mujahid Dokubo Asari took yesterday to his Facebook page to doubt the abduction of Chibok girls.

More than 230 girls were reportedly abducted in the April 14 night raid on Chibok school, Borno State. Some of the victims managed to escape soon after the kidnap, while the majority are still missing.

The leader of the dreaded Islamic sect  Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau claimed responsibility for the kidnap in the video released 3 weeks after the incident. He said now he owned the girls and would sell them in the market.

Meanwhile the tragedy has caused international rage and concern, with many countries, including USA, China, France, UK suggesting their help in the search process.

SHOCKER: Nigerian Army Admits Lacking Capacity To Rescue Chibok Girls -Activists

Just as many critics of the Federal Government have been saying, the Nigerian military high command has reportedly admitted that it did not have the equipment and weapon to rescue the secondary school girls abducted by gunmen in Chibok, Borno State.

According to latest reports, over two hundred girls are still in the camp of the Boko Haram sect after some of the kidnapped girls reportedly escaped from the captivity of their abductors some days back.

However, one of the Civil society group at the forefront of rallies for the release of the abducted Chibok girls has allegedly said the military high command admitted at a meeting with the coalition that it did not have the equipment and weapon to rescue the schoolgirls.

Jibrim Ibrahim, the head, Mobilisation Committee of the ‘bring back our girls’ group, said some military chiefs told representatives of the movement at a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday that the military spent most of its budget on “expendables” such as fuelling operational vehicles, personnel allowances and other things.

US Scientists Are Ready To Identify, Reunite Abducted Girls With Families By DNA Test

A group of scientists at the University of North Texas is ready to provide forensic DNA technology for free that could help identify and reunite with their families the more than 200 Chibok girls who were kid­napped by Boko Haram.

Speaking with AFP on Tuesday, the chairman of the depart­ment of molecular and medi­cal genetics at the University of North Texas (UNT), Arthur Eisenberg, explained that software already exists to match missing people with their relatives.

"It has been used worldwide to identify and re­turn more than 740 children who were trafficked, some across international borders," said Eisenberg who heads the UNT Center for Human Identification, the laboratory that works with a 10-year-old international program called DNA-Prokids, which aims to reunite families and deter human trafficking.

Most of all, forensic scien­tists in the United States and Spain say they are ready to help, free of charge. All they need to get started are DNA samples from family members of the lost schoolgirls. “We would do this absolutely for nothing,” said Eisenberg.

First, the girls’ family mem­bers: mother, father or another close relative could provide a DNA sample by swabbing the inside of their mouths with a cotton tip or giving a blood sample.

Then, Eisenberg said, he and colleagues establish DNA profiles of the families using a software system called M-FI­Sys (pronounced “emphasis”).

Less than 5 weeks before the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks-off in South American nation of Brazil, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been boosted ahead of their camping as they have now moved one place in the latest FIFA world ranking.

The Nigerian team, coach by Stephen Keshi  who were ranked 45th in March ranking, are now ranked 44th in the FIFA ranking for the month of April released from the world governing body's headquarters in Zurich Switzerland some hours ago.

Despite polling a total of 631 points on the current log, Nigeria's position however remained unchanged in Africa, as they are still ranked in sixth position behind Cape Verde who are ranked fifth on the continent.

The top four positions in Africa remained unchanged with: Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Algeria and Ghana are the top ranked teams on the continent respectively.

In the World ranking, Spain,Germany and Portugal remained the three top ranked teams.

Hosts of the world cup, Brazil, moved up two places as they are now the fourth best team in the world, while Honduras moved two places to now rank 30th.

D’banj Reveals His Relationship Status In Recent Interview

Stoke City's Osaze Odemwingie is really excited to be included back into the Keshi's list after his pro longed absence from the National team.

Father Poisons Sick Baby Because He Doesn't Have Money For Medicines

Man accused of killing his 9-month-old son has been sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment, Vanguard reports.

Bauchi State High Court Number 10 found Shitu Adamu guilty of administering a chemical herbicide to the baby that died instantly.

The father of two had earlier confessed to the crime and narrated how it happened.
He said his wife took their sick baby to the hospital. After the doctor had prescribed medicines, the man lamented that he had no money at that time.

Thus he administered herbicide thinking that it will help to cure the baby.

Providing evidence, his wife Lantana Shitu, who was not at the scene at the moment of the incident, said she went to bring water from the pond and upon returning she already saw the child vomit and quickly die.

"I did not know what happened until three days later when our village head called my husband concerning the issue and he confessed that he was the one that poisoned his son with herbicide."

Having taken into consideration the convict's plea for leniency and the fact that it was his first offence, the Justice sentenced him to 6 years in jail, starting from June 24, 2013 (the day of arrest).

Eminem Announces First Headlining Show at Wembley Stadium

Eminem is coming to U.K. this summer. In a phone interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, the Detroit MC said that he would be performing a special concert at the Wembley Stadium in London on July 11.

Em, who's having his first London show since 2001, will make history by being the first rapper to headline the famous venue. He's set to be joined by some special guests at the anticipated concert. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, May 9 at 09:00 A.M. on Ticketmaster.

In the interview with BBC Radio 1, the "Rap God" hitmaker also talked about having one-off shows and not wanting to do lengthy tours. "I'm not saying I'll never be ready for that again, but right now, this is what's working for me," he said.

Eminem went on revealing that he's currently producing albums by Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf. He also talked about his new rap battle league called Total Slaughter, saying, "We're trying to take the best of the best and put them up against each other."

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen apparently have found a potential buyer for their Brentwood mansion. As reported by TMZ, there were "multiple interested parties ready to put offers on the house," but the couple is now close to signing a deal with Dr. Dre for their 14,300 square-foot estate.

Another source close to Dre told E! News similar info. "He's about to close on the house he and his wife Nicole purchased," the source said. Brady and his supermodel wife reportedly sold the house with the furniture, but Dr. Dre apparently did not want them as he planned to put his own stuff.

Brady and Bundchen bought the mansion in 2008 for $11.75 million and invested some more to expand the property. The estate boasts a gourmet kitchen, a library, a gym and infinity pool in addition to six bedrooms. They listed the property for $50 million in March.

Chibok Girls Search: Nigeria Deploys Two Special Battalions

Presidential aide Doyin Okupe has revealed in the interview to CNN that two special battalions were deployed to find the girls abducted in Chibok, Borno State.

This comes amid the accusations by the victims' parents and Nigerians that the authorities are not doing enough to rescue the children.

Okupe also added that "250 aerial sortees with helicopters and fighter jets” scanned the forests, which gave no results. 

More than 200 school girls were abducted in the April 14 night raid on Chibok, Borno State. Boko Haram sect leader Abubakar Shekau yesterday released the video in which he claimed responsibility for the kidnap and promised to sell the victims in the market.

Meanwhile the tragedy has caused international rage and concern, with many countries suggesting their help in the search process.

USA has reportedly offered assistance, which was immediately accepted by President Goodluck Jonathan, and soon the American special team is expected to join the operation.

President's Spokesman Reuben Abati has informed people on Twitter that Goodluck Jonathan "summons security chiefs to a special security meeting following a bomb blast an Nyanya".

Another bomb went off yesterday at Nyanya, on the outskirts of Abuja, having killed at least 12 people and injured scores of others.

This attack comes barely 3 weeks after the same area was rocked by similar explosion leaving 75 people dead and hundreds injured.

Similar meeting of the President with security chiefs to discuss the current situation in the country was held after the April 14 bombing.

On the other side of the ocean, the royal’s ex, Cressida Bonas, has reportedly been granted “compassionate leave” from her job to deal with the fallout. She has pulled out of the Pelly wedding, Vanity Fair reports, and has also withdrawn from her marketing job in London – not exactly the standard procedure during a breakup, but maybe the protocol is different when your ex is fifth in line for the throne. According to most reports, Cressida is believed to have initiated the breakup. Variety's report says, “According to sources, Cressida, who is currently working for a marketing company in London’s Soho, has been given compassionate leave from work, while she gets over the break up. She was photographed earlier this week looking tired and drawn as she made her way to the office, and hasn’t been seen since then.”
