Three people yesterday lost their lives in a communal clash
between the people of Amazaba community in Eastern Obolo and Ikot Akpan
Udo in Ikot Abasi local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.
According
to an eyewitness, the youths from Nda Uko community were on fishing
expedition in preparation for the burial of a middle-aged woman, a
native of Eastern Obolo but married to an Nda Uko man when suddenly,
over 20 rival youths from Eastern Obolo, travelling in a flying boat,
attacked them with machetes and other dangerous weapons.
Three youths were said to have been beheaded during the attack and their heads taken away by the assailants.
Speaking
with a national daily, a community leader in the area, said the entire
community is currently in a mourning mood over the untimely death of the
three young men and that the case has been reported to the chairman of
Ikot Abasi local government area.
The Akwa Ibom state police
public relations officer, Mr. Etim Dickson who confirmed the incident
said the command had already deployed more operatives to the area and
the matter was under investigation.
