'I never went to university' - billionaire Folorunsho Alakija admits

One of Africa's richest women and chairman of Famfa Oil, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija yesterday August 27th revealed that she never went to a university, saying one does not need a university education to make it in life. Mrs Alakija said this while speaking with students of the University of Lagos during the 2014 UN International Youths Day in Lagos.
"I come from Ikorodu, Lagos state. I am married to a dashing young lawyer of 70 years of age and we have four grown up gentlemen and grandchildren. It has not been a rag to riches fairytale. It has not been an overnight phenomenon like some cases which you find here and there all over the world. For as long as I can remember, I had always wanted my own business. Hard work...am trying to tell you how I got to where I am if you want those billions. Hard work, diligence, persistence...days where you nearly gave up but I chose not to give up." Continue...

It would have been easy to compromise but I chose not to and I stayed focus. I could have stayed a secretary as my father desired according to his plan for me but I had bigger aspirations. I dreamt big. God strengthened me and gave me wisdom. I had a passion and burning desire to succeed. Being a secretary, a banker, a fashion icon, a cooperate promoter and printer, a real estate owner, an oil magnate, that I can assure you was no easy feat. Firm belief that what is worth doing is what doing well or not doing at all. I took charge of my life with the tools I have shared with you. I chose to become born again at the age of 40. I chose to make a covenant with God that if he would bless me I would work for him all the days of my life. I chose to hold on to the cross and look up to him every step of the way. Today additional accomplishment includes a wife of almost 40 years, a mother, grandmother, ministry, counseling, outreach, NGO Rose of Sharon Foundation for widows and Author, writer, author of several inspirational books. All I say to the glory of God. So I am 63 and I am not yet done. So what is your excuse? I never went to a University and I am proud to say so because I don't think I have done too badly. You do not have to have a University education to be able to make it so count yourselves privileged to have that

Suspected Ebola Victim Escapes From Port Harcourt

Information coming in from Port Harcourt, Rivers State indicate that a sister of the fled to Abia State to avoid being quarantined along with others who came into contact with the late doctor.

Sahara Reporters however reports that a sibling of the suspected Ebola victim, who is also a doctor, forced her to return to the quarantine center in Port Harcourt.

It was gathered that the woman helped to care for her late doctor brother when he contracted the dreaded Ebola virus disease.

Earlier reports had informed that about 160 people who came in contact with the late Dr. Enemuo, who died last Friday in Port Harcourt, have been placed in quarantine for medical watch.

According to Nigerian Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, the deceased had contracted the virus when he was secretly treating a staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who, in turn, had had contact with Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian-American who initially brought the disease into Nigeria.

Reports stated that the Liberian diplomat was rushed to a Lagos Hospital where he died from the Ebola virus on 25 August, 2014.

Mourinho Criticises Champions League Draws

Less than 24 hours after UEFA conducted the draws for the group stage of this year’s Champions League, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has criticised  the system used by UEFA to determine the seedings.

It would be recalled that the draw for the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition was made on Thursday, 28 August, 2014 with questions raised about the way the make-up of each group is influenced by dividing the 32 teams into four pots beforehand based on their previous European performances.

But Mourinho, whose side were drawn with Sporting Lisbon, Schalke and Maribor, doesn’t believe clubs who haven’t won a league title in years should be ranked higher than reigning domestic champions.

Arsenal, for example, were one of the top seeds despite having not won the Premier League in a decade and finishing fourth last season, whereas title-winners like Paris St Germain, Juventus and Manchester City were ranked lower.

Chelsea's Jose Mourinho
Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho

There was also complaints over Portuguese club Benfica, Europa League runners-up in 2013 and 2014, inclusion in the first pot of seeds despite a mediocre Champions League record in recent years.

“Maybe what they have to look at is the criteria to qualify teams for different pots,” Mourinho said on Friday.

“I know Roma, for example, have not played in Europe for a few years, but they are runners-up in Italy so to be in the fourth pot is hard.

“On the other hand, teams that don’t win titles for a long, long time, they are in the first, second and third seeds.

“Also, I think it’s not fair that the points you make in the Europa League help you make a coefficient for the Champions League.

“You go in the Europa League, you win more matches, you make more points and then become protected by these points.

“It gives you a bigger coefficient in the Champions League. That criteria is strange but the fact that you play against team, that’s just occasional. That’s just about the draw.”

Real Madrid are the holders of the Champions League after the Spanish giants triumphed over Atletico Madrid in May.

GOOD NEWS: Ebola Drug Passes Early Test

After all the bad news that have been going round over the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West African countries, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, a piece of good news finally arrived yesterday.

Reporting online in the British journal Nature, researchers at the Public Health Agency of Canada announced that a prototype drug, ZMapp, that has been urgently given to a handful of patients with Ebola has cleared an important test hurdle.

According to the scientists report, the drug test results showed that ZMapp cured lab monkeys that have been infected with the Ebola virus disease.
It was gathered that it is a norm to experiment drugs on animals first and then on progressively larger groups of humans to ensure they are safe and effective.

But, in an exceptional move, as the lethal disease has no cure.

According to the Canadian researchers, 18 rhesus macaque monkeys given high doses of Ebola virus fully recovered after being given ZMapp, even when it was administered five days after infection.

That mystery fire at the Glass House

FOR many football lovers, the mystery fire that gutted the NFF Glass House in Abuja, almost destroying the Accounts Department, has already been tainted as an act of man, not of God, although proper investigations will tell us which is which. With news of missing or badly disbursed monies trailing the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, after the recent World Cup tournament, there is no way suspicious Nigerians would not call it sabotage or an attempt at cover-up.

Before they left for Brazil, the Aminu Maigari-led NFF Board was impeached and later sacked on various alleged charges of misdemeanor. But on the two occasions when Maigari had cried wolf, FIFA had intervened, like a parent who always stands by a bad child no matter what he or she does, to save members of the NFF, reinstated them and threatened the Federal Government for what it termed “regular interference with the running of football in the country”.

HEALTH: Stress Causes Infertility in Men

The increasing rate of infertility among men could partly be as a result of stress in jobs and other spheres of life engaged in by the men, a new health research report has shown.

In Nigeria, for example, there are no adequate statistics of men suffering from infertility, but experts have constantly raised concerns about a growing rate of the challenge in the country.

These concerns have resulted in the proliferation of herbal remedies in the form of drugs and other aphrodisiacs advertised and sold locally along streets in the country.

The new study shows that stress, apart from resulting in health problems, including heart disease, asthma, obesity and depression, can also reduce sperm and semen quality, thus affecting the male fertility.

In the study carried out by researchers from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, New York, and Rutgers School of Public Health in Piscataway, New Jersey, and published in the journal of Fertility and Sterility, they discovered that 'stressful life events' including a level of unemployment can cause infertility in men.

The researchers, who studied 193 men between the ages of 38 to 49, said their finding, after filling a form and providing semen samples, showed that two or more stressful life events in the past year had lower sperm quality than men who did not experience any stressful life events.

"I can never talk to Fathia again" - Saidi Balogun deflates reconciliation remours

In an interview with Encomium magazine, Nollywood actor, Saidi Balogun  deflated reports that he has reconciled with his ex wife, actress Fathia Balogun. According to him, a reconciliation between the former Nollywood couple can never happen, adding that they've havent spoken to each other since 2006. By my calculation that's 8 years! isn't that a long time not to speak with the mother of your kids? What do I know? Find what he said below:
“People don’t understand what’s really going on between us. I believe that’s why they are peddling the rumour. There is no logic in it at all. I think it’s because they saw us in Mercy Aigbe’s new movie, Life After Marriage, that’s why they imagined we’re back in love. The marketer of the movie only used Fathia and myself to promote the movie. And so far people saw the two of us in the movie, they started peddling the rumour that the movie was meant to reconcile us.

“The funniest thing is that we didn’t act together on the set of the movie. We didn’t even see each other for once. I acted my role separately, she also did hers separately. Our paths didn’t cross at all on the set of Life After Marriage till the production ended. So, I don’t know how people arrived at the conclusion that we have reconciled. After how many years? That’s a big joke.” Continue...

POOR WAEC R‎ESULT: MANY SAW IT COMING

After many years of witnessing a downward trend in student performance, the West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) results have hit an all time low as 70% Of Candidates failed in the May/June edition this year. Many saw it coming considering the dwindling allocation of resources to education in the country and the lack of quality teachers but the most important contributing factor has been the lackadaisical attitude of the students.

It's not been so long since our time in Secondary School but there's been a massive drastic drop in the quest for knowledge. During our time, we wanted to be good, studied for long hours and even overnight and competed against ourselves. Education was an active, big part and source of happiness in our lives but nowadays, take study out of a students life and he/she be happy. They like it easy and fun.

Success doesn't just fall from heaven like our pastors want us to believe, it's a result of hard work and proper preparation because you can't give what you don't have. Success is deliberate and so is failure. "There is no better future than through pen and paper", were my grandmothers last words to me. For a woman who never saw the four walls of formal education and that I never saw her alive after hearing those meant I had heard from God himself and never took my books for granted. Even the bible says "study to show thyself approved..." but what do we see these days? Students are no more studying, they don't. They are not driven or motivated by academic success anymore. Words such as Hard work, determination, perseverance, goals and all that are constantly losing value.

How to Defeat Boko Haram: As Exposed by “Abubakar Shekau”

The Boko Haram terrorist movement released a latest video to update Nigeria on their current status. In it they claimed the formation of a nonsensical caliphate, plagiarizing from the concurrently running operations of fellow loony ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria.

In the 40 minute video released by the usual publicists, only one important message and piece of information was of note: Boko Haram is scared of the Civilian-JTF. The man who spoke in the video, claiming to be Abubakar Shekau – the serially replaced leader figure – sounded several “warnings” to the Civilian-JTF, literally begging them (us as I feel a part of their association with their permission) to leave the terrorists alone. “Shekau” severally threatened to kill us for slaughtering his men in hundreds. He even went as far as describing the process in which the Civilian-JTF professionally screens which of his members to kill. Shekau said: “you ask of them which of them have blood on their hands; which of them have actually killed people and all those who admit to having murdered you humiliate and kill them.” This is not the first time that in new videos the only enemy and threat “Shekau” warns are the Civilian-JTF.

Japan Offers Ebola Drug

Japan could allegedly provide the self-developed unapproved drug to help treat Ebola.

Reuters reports with reference to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, who briefed journalists at a recent press conference held August 25, that Japan was ready to cooperate with the World Health Organization (WHO) by offering their solution.

“I am informed that medical professionals could make a request for T-705 in an emergency even before a decision by the WHO. In that case, we would like to respond under certain criteria.”

T-705 is the developmental code for the influenza drug favipiravir. The developers, a subsidiary of Fujifilm Holdings Corp., and the U.S. partner MediVector are currently negotiating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the permission to to expand the use of favipiravir to fight Ebola.

Fujifilm spokesman Takao Aoki, explaining the mechanism of drug use, said Ebola and Influenza are same-type viruses adding that theoretically similar effects can be expected on Ebola, ABC News reports. According to the official, the effectiveness of T-705 was confirmed in experiments on mice. The company representative stated that it has favipiravir stock for more than twenty thousand patients.

Meanwhile the figure of people who died from Ebola outbreak in West Africa is gradually approaching 1500.

She said offers for completion of education of the girls, inclusive of scholarship, have been made to RROM through Stefanos Foundation and the international support groups of RROM while adding that they hope the funds and support partnership will consistently get to RROM for project sustainability within scheduled time frame so as not to hinder the progress the outreach mission has made so far.

American Doctor Proffers Cure For Ebola

An American doctor, Dr. Bill Gray has claimed that  he has technological remedy to help people infected with Ebola Virus recover.

According to a statement made available to P.M News, Dr.Gray, who is the Founder and Chairman, Coherence Apps LLC, said that Ebola death rate is about 50 per cent so far, meaning that with necessary treatment 50 per cent can recover to a full state of health.

He however, said the remaining 50 per cent can recover to a full state of health with his online technology therapy which is free.

The American doctor noted that his technology should be used as a preventive for those exposed to Ebola but not sick or for those that are sick for less than 48 hours.

“It is true that standard medicine has no proven cure to kill the virus and no vaccines. All that can be done is to enhance the body’s own ability to health itself — hydration (with intravenous fluids if necessary), rest, good nutrition, and careful hygiene are basic — as well as isolation and quarantine to protect family members and the community,” Dr.Gray said.

He informed that the use of homeopathy brings succour. “Modern technology finally brings another encouraging option, however. Homeopathy is a two-century-old science with remedies capable of stimulating the body to heal itself. Homeopathy actually became famous worldwide treating scarlet fever, smallpox, yellow fever, cholera, typhoid, etc. — all as intense as Ebola.

“Ordinarily, the difficulty in the chaos of Ebola is just getting to a homeopathic doctor or pharmacy to acquire a remedy. Not a problem nowadays!”

It was gathered that Gray’s homeopathic remedies have been made into electronic form that can be played for just 10 seconds over a cellphone! Sounding like mere white noise, the frequencies played actually help to heal.

“Coherence Apps LLC has created two eRemedies carefully chosen to stimulate healing forces of those suffering from Ebola — as well as enhancing prevention for those at risk of exposure. Fortunately, he was able to interview an internationally famous Ebola expert to gather detailed clinical symptoms needed to choose precise eRemedies for this epidemic.”
Also, all those interested in the remedy are advised to try out the therapy via a website. “Those interested in this perfectly safe method of healing Ebola sufferers can simply go to http://emergencyDr.org. On the Ebola page, follow instructions to take one or another of the eRemedies. They play for 10 seconds each time — with a benign white noise sound. … And, this service is completely free of charge.”

“Improvement in energy, fever and other symptoms can be expected within a day or so, often within hours,” the statement read.

Gray is a Stanford Medical School trained physician with 43 years of experience practicing and teaching homeopathy worldwide.

He has also an author and in 1999, published Homeopathy: Science or Myth? He is the co-founder of International Foundation of Homeopathy, principal instructor for IFH across US and co-founder of and core faculty member of Hahnemann College of Homeopathy in East Bay.

According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, the Ebola virus has killed no fewer than 1350 people, while 2473 cases have been confirmed since the outbreak that started early this year in West Africa.
Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia are currently battling to curtail the dreaded disease.
