Speaking to Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM show on Tuesday, 29 October, morning, controversial rapper and GOOD Music Boss, Kanye West declares his love for his baby mama Kim Kardashian and argued that she is more influential than Michelle Obama, insisting that it should be his fiancé on the cover of Vogue rather than the First Lady. He argued that, between them, he and Kim have a bigger influence on fashion over anyone else in the world today and that the curvaceous Instagram image Kim uploaded earlier this month was cause enough for her to be the latest Vogue cover star.

50 Cent Avoids Jail Time as Domestic Violence Charge Gets Dismissed

Rap star Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson avoided five years in prison and around $46,000 in fines on Monday, October 28, when the domestic violence and vandalism charges filed against him for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy Narvaez got dismissed. The charges stem from a June 23 argument inside Narvaez' condo, when the "Street King Immortal" artist allegedly started destroying about $7,100 worth of her property, which included broken furniture and chandeliers throughout the place, a broken TV and a broken lamp and a ransacked bedroom closet.

The dismissal came after he agreed with the Los Angeles City Attorney in a Van Nuys, California court to plead guilty to one of the four counts of misdemeanor vandalism that were filed against him. That count deals with the door of the condo which Jackson kicked down after Narvaez locked herself in her bedroom, the door technically being under the ownership of the landlord.

Jackson was instead sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation and ordered to render 30 days of community service and attend counseling. He must also pay $7,100 in restitution to Narvaez, with whom he has fathered a child.

A restraining order preventing Jackson from coming close to Narvaez remains in place, with the rapper needing to maintain a 100 feet distance from her and whom he is also disallowed to contact while the case is active. He is also instructed to surrender any weapons in his possession.

HEALTH: Obesity May Be Caused By 'Hunger Gene'

Some people are able to tuck into chocolate every day and not gain weight, while others struggle to keep their weight down regardless of what they eat. Exactly why this is has been unclear, but now researchers point to a genetic mutation as the cause.

Researchers from the University of Cambridge in the UK say that mutation of a gene called KSR2 may cause continued hunger pangs in patients who are obese, as well as slow their metabolism - the rate at which the body burns calories.

These findings could provide some explanation for the increase in childhood obesity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rate of childhood obesity has more than doubled in the US in the past 30 years. The increase has prompted researchers to identify possible obesity causes and interventions.

Previous studies have demonstrated that deleting the KSR2 gene in mice caused them to develop obesity. This highlighted KSR2 as an important factor in regulating energy balance and metabolism.

But until now, it has been unclear as to whether this gene has the same effect in human subjects.

Kim Kardashian said that she wanted to take Kanye West's last name after getting married. The 33-year-old reality star made the revelation on the red carpet of her birthday party at Tao in Las Vegas last week, telling E! News that she would make Kardashian her middle name.

The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star also talked about her surprise engagement which took place at San Francisco's AT&T Park on her birthday. "I cried afterwards. I was shaking. And when you're like, 'Is this really happening?' But you're just shaking... I honestly had no idea, none whatsoever," she said.

"I knew we were going to San Francisco for my birthday, because he had a show there the next night. So I thought it was just a birthday dinner," Kim continued. Drake Previews Unreleased Track 'Trophies' at New York Concer

Drake gave fans a special surprise when bringing his "Would You Like a Tour?" tour to New York. The Canadian rapper previewed an unreleased track called "Trophies" when he hit the stage at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Monday night, October 28.

Backed by some brass horns, Drake played a little part of the song. He can be heard rapping, "I hear records on my demo, did y'all boys not get the memo?/ I do not stay at the InterContinental, and anything I got is not a rental/ I own that muthafucka."

Produced by Hit Boy, the song was featured in a promo trailer for Drake's latest release, "Nothing Was the Same". Rumors suggested that the song was originally expected to be included in the rapper's third studio album. Fans are hoping that the full version of the track will be released soon.

HEALTH: Peer Pressure Likely Influences Food Choices At Restaurants

If you want to eat healthier when dining out, research recommends surrounding yourself with friends who make healthy food choices. A University of Illinois study showed that when groups of people eat together at a restaurant at which they must state their food choice aloud, they tend to select items from the same menu categories.

"My conclusion from the research is that people want to be different, but not that different," said U of I food economist Brenna Ellison. "We want to fit in with the people we're dining with. It goes against the expectation that people will exhibit variety-seeking behavior; we don't want to be that different from others."

Ellison analyzed the lunch receipts from a full-service restaurant in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for a period of three months. One section of the restaurant was the control group, with guests receiving menus with the item and price only. Another section received menus with calorie counts for each entrée. And a third section had both the calorie count and a traffic light symbol that indicated caloric ranges: green traffic light items contained 400 calories or less, yellow light items had between 401 and 800 calories, and red light items contained more than 800 calories.

Top Ghanaian movie actor Van Vicker who celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary with his wife Adjoa on November 16th , has lamented that he hopes in the future, movie makers will stop taking advantage of women who want to act so it will not discourage women from coming forward for auditions.

HEALTH: How You Can Reduce Your Risk Of Breast Cancer

October has been designated as the Pink Month in a global effort to draw attention to issues relating to breast cancer. The ultimate goal is to educate everyone about the disease and, consequently, reduce to the barest minimum the incident of breast cancer.

Oncologists say breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, representing 16 per cent of all female cancers. Again, scientific studies have found that women have a 12 per cent lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, though individual risks may be higher or lower than that. “Individual risk is affected by many different factors, such as family history, reproductive history, lifestyle, environment, and others,” researchers say.

For instance, in terms of unhealthy lifestyle, research has shown that taking two alcoholic drinks a day could increase breast cancer risk by 21 percent. However, most people who develop breast cancer may be teetotalers.

The World Health Organisation Global Burden of Disease estimates that 519,000 women died in 2004 alone due to breast cancer, with the majority (69 per cent) of all breast cancer deaths occurring in developing countries such as Nigeria.

Ordinarily, experts say, being diagnosed with breast cancer does not necessarily mean that you’ve been handed a death sentence. But that only means your symptoms are diagnosed at the earliest stage and tackled headlong.

Man Kidnaps Son, Demands N350,000 Ransom

The State Security Service, Lagos State Command, has arrested a 48-year-old man, Samson Adebayo, for allegedly arranging the kidnap of his nine-year-old son, Emmanuel, and demanding a ransom of N350, 000.

According to the SSS, Adebayo had solicited the help of his girlfriend, Kehinde Alonge, to kidnap Emmanuel from his residence at 2, Solomon Street, Ilu-Nla, Aradagun, Badagry.

The director, SSS, Lagos State, Mr. Ben Achu-Olayi, said Adebayo reported the incident to security agents, pretending to be distraught.

He said, “On October 7, 2013, the command received a report from Adebayo Samson, who complained that his son was kidnapped on October 3.

“Consequently, the command swung into action with the aim of rescuing the victim and arresting the culprits. Preliminary investigations confirmed the kidnapping by Alonge, who had demanded a N350, 000 ransom.

“She demanded that the ransom be paid into a United Bank of Africa account 2050908899, belonging to one Taiwo Faloye. Unknown to the suspects, we had set up a flag on the account with the bank’s cooperation and were alerted when N230, 000 was remitted.”

32yr Old Man Butchers Uncle For Allegedly Manipulating His Destiny

A man identified as Chinweoru Ugbo, 32, was weekend arrested by the Onueke Divisional Police Command, Ebonyi State for allegedly butchering his uncle, Mr. Ogbuleji Nwite, 78, with an axe.

The crime was allegedly committed at Nsokkara Community in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state over claims that the deceased was diabolically manipulating Ugbo’s destiny.

The suspect allegedly lured his victim to a lonely farmland near a neighbouring community in Amagu, under the guise of showing him (the victim) a piece of land he wanted to purchase.

He reportedly inflicted 27 cuts on late Mr. Nwite in the early hours of Saturday, unaware that some people saw him.

Vanguard gathered that the suspect was caught by the villagers at Igweledoha Nsokkara community, when he was packing his luggage to flee the community.

It was also learnt that the suspect, a trader resident at Owerri in Imo State, was said to have returned home on Friday night with the intention of killing his uncle.

Plane Crash Averted In Abuja

Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja

Another air disaster was averted at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja on Monday as a Med-View Airlines aircraft from Lagos suddenly took to the air again at the point of landing in Abuja.

The pilot told the passengers that he took to the air again to avoid a collision with another aircraft on the tarmac.

The airline Flight VL2104 took off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at noon and was scheduled to land in Abuja at about 1.05pm.

The pilot had already announced final descent into Abuja and asked all passengers and cabin crew to fasten their seat belts but the pilot suddenly took off to the air again with barely 30 seconds to touch ground.

The plane had 150 passengers on board.

After about three minutes of gaining altitude, the pilot announced that he decided to take off again to avoid colliding with an aircraft that was on ground.

He said that after he had been granted clearance to land, it was later discovered that the other aircraft was not fast enough, hence his decision to take off.

SHOCKING: College Girl Kills Self Because Her Parents Ban Her From Facebook!

A teenager who killed herself after her parents banned her from Facebook left a note for a devastated family saying she couldn't live without the site. 

Aiswarya Dahiwal, a second year college student from Parbhani, in the Maharashtra state of India, had asked her parents for permission to log on to the site on Wednesday, but they said no. 

The teenager then got into an argument with the couple who told her that she should pay more attention to school work, and spend less time on Facebook. The family also argued about Miss Dahiwal making long mobile phone calls to her friends. 

Her body was found on Thursday morning, and police said that she had hanged herself. A note found in Miss Dahiwal's bedroom said that she had taken her own life because she was not allowed to go on the social networking site.

 Police said that in the note the teenager had said that she couldn't stay in a home with the restrictions she felt she was being placed under, and that she couldn't live without Facebook. 

Nollywood Actor Dies After Brief Illness

The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, has been thrown into another round of mourning as a very promising actor, Ray Daniels Okeugo, has been reported dead at the age of 33.

The young man, who was a very popular face in soap operas before graduating to the movies, lost his life on Friday, October 25, 2013, after a very brief illness. He was also a movie director and director of photography.

We hear that the Lagos Chapter of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, led by comic actor, Victor Osuagwu, has kicked started plans to give the young man a befitting burial.

Michael Jackson's Killer Wants Medical Licence Back

 Dr. Conrad Murray - who was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to four years behind bars in November 2011 as he administered the lethal dose of Propofol, which led to the King of Pop's death in 2009 - has applied to have his medical licence reinstated ahead of his early release from prison on Monday (28.10.13).

The disgraced physician, who had a clinic in Texas prior to his conviction, filed a civil petition in Travis County, Texas on Friday (25.10.13), asking a judge to stop the state medical board's revocation of his medical licence pending the outcome of his criminal appeal in California, according to the New York Daily News.

Texas was the first state to revoke his licence, citing his felony conviction in California as the reason.
His attorney said: ''Dr. Murray has an unquenchable desire to help people, and no matter where it is, he will return to his given profession of healing.''

Murray will be released on Monday as his sentence was recently reduced to two years due to his good behaviour and jail overcrowding.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's office is vowing to fight all efforts by Murray to get a medical licence anywhere in the country, according to gossip website RadarOnline.com.

HEALTH: Air Pollution Is a Major Cause Of Lung Cancer

Air pollution has long been known to cause heart and lung diseases, but evidence now supports that it’s a leading environmental cause of lung cancer. As a result, the World Health Organization has classified air pollution in the same category as tobacco smoke, UV radiation and plutonium.

A thorough review of the most recent data suggests that 223, 000 lung cancer deaths were directly caused by air pollution. The data also links pollution to the development of bladder cancer.

The main sources of environmental air pollution were found to be from industries such as power stations and emissions from agriculture. Fossil fuel emissions from cars and trucks have skyrocketed in recent years with rapid urbanization and the increased reliance on motorized transport of people and goods.

Environmental air pollution also includes smoke and emissions from burning rubbish, firewood and charcoal. These activities occur in and around the home and are major causes of respiratory disease in both adults and children. Cancer aside, children also experience more generalised illness, such as bronchitis, asthma and earaches when exposed to the chemical onslaught of environmental pollution.

HEALTH: Energy Drinks Are Dangerous, Doctors Warn

A physician at the Nigerian National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday advised people with hypertension and diabetes to avoid energy drinks because of their caffeine content.

Dr Agnes Eguagie, of the Department of Medicine, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“Energy drinks are an attempt by the manufacturer to boost people’s energy alertness by combining the properties of certain compounds that we know that this can actually help.

“They contain caffeine. Caffeine makes people alert, they contain glucose, which is supposed to give you energy, they contain some B vitamins, then some may contain one or two amino acids.

“But the problem with these drugs is that combining all this things together is not actually really helpful.

“They have very high levels of caffeine in them and caffeine in itself has its own problems. Apart from the fact that it makes you alert it actually gives some people nervousness and tremor.

“For patients who are hypertensive, the high level of caffeine will cause the blood vessels to constrict and the blood pressure to shoot up; you can come down with a stoke.

HEALTH: Increasing Numbers Of Younger People Suffering Strokes

Although stroke is traditionally associated with older people, a major new study published in The Lancet this month reveals that it is increasingly affecting middle-aged and young people around the world.

The study, the Global and Regional Burden of Stroke in 1990-2000, collated data from around the world to calculate both regional and country-specific estimates of stroke. They included 119 studies in the research - 58 from high-income countries and 61 from middle-income and low-income countries.

The team of researchers, led by Prof. Valery Feigin, director of the National Institute for Stroke and Applied 

 Neurosciences at AUT University in New Zealand, compared the results over time to build up a picture of the overall burden of stroke in all 21 regions of the world for the years 1990, 2005 and 2010.

Stroke can occur at any age and by far the majority occur in people aged over 65. But the research highlights that a growing number of children and young people are affected.

Britain's most famous baby, Prince George of Cambridge, has been christened at a private ceremony the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace in London. The third in line to the British throne, after his grandfather Charles and his father William, was baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

A total of seven godparents were selected for the young prince, including family members and friends of his parents, William and Kate. Tindall, the wife of former rugby player Mike Tindall, is Prince William's cousin whilst the other six are friends of Will and Kate.
Kate's sister Pippa and William's brother Harry read out some bible lessons which were chosen along with two hymns and two anthems by the Duke and Duchess. Though royal fans gathered outside the chapel, the baptism was attended by only 22 guests, which included senior royals, four members of the Middleton family, the seven godparents and their spouses.

HEALTH: Contraception Needed 3 Weeks After Giving Birth, New Mums Warned

Fertility can return much more rapidly than many women assume after giving birth, and myths still abound about what contraception can and can't be used while breastfeeding. The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (bpas) has developed a pamphlet providing guidance on postnatal fertility and contraceptive options for new mothers, after noticing a rise in women experiencing unplanned pregnancies shortly after birth.

bpas has seen a particular increase among breastfeeding mothers with some believing it provided full contraceptive cover, while many women are unsure which methods are safe to use while nursing their baby - especially when it comes to emergency contraception.

The pamphlet advises:

• Fertility can return within 28 days after giving birth. However, if women want to avoid pregnancy they need to start using contraception 21 days postpartum
• Breastfeeding can provide effective protection against unwanted pregnancy but only if strict criteria are met - the baby must be less than 6 months old, women must be exclusively breastfeeding and feeding at regular intervals (every four hours during the day and six during the night), their periods must not have returned, and their baby must not be using a dummy.

The elimination of HIV in South Africa could be possible 10 years earlier than under current antiretroviral treatment policy, as a result of an expanded universal test and treat approach. This is according to new research published in the journal PLOS Medicine.

According to the Human Sciences Research Council, there were approximately 6.4 million South Africans with HIV or AIDS in 2012. The prevalence of the virus increased from 10.6% in 2008 to 12.3% last year, emphasizing the need for preventive interventions.

A team of international researchers, led by Jan Hontelez from Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam in the Netherlands, say that with the current antiretroviral treatment policy in South Africa, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) could be wiped out in the next 24-34 years.

But their new research suggests that access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) through a universal test and treat (UTT) approach could eliminate HIV 10 years earlier.

The UTT intervention involves an annual screening of people aged 15-years-old and over, alongside immediate ART for adults infected with HIV beginning in 2012 and increasing to 90% coverage by 2019.

HEALTH: Coffee Consumption Cuts Liver Cancer Risk

Good news for coffee drinkers: researchers from Italy have shown that coffee consumption reduces the risk of liver cancer by about 40%. And some of the results indicate that if you drink three cups a day, the risks are reduced by more than 50%.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that liver cancer is the ninth leading cause of cancer deaths in the US and the third leading cause of death from cancer in the world.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of this cancer and men are approximately three times more likely to develop the disease than women.

The results of the study, published in Clinical Gastronenterology and Hepatology, reaffirm previous findings that coffee drinking does have health benefits.

In just this year, Medical News Today has covered reports that coffee may protect against womb cancer, prostate cancer, and even how drinking Greek coffee may be the key to longevity.

And as The National Coffee Association's 2010 National coffee drinking survey reveals, 56% of American adults may have something to celebrate as they sip their morning cup.

Think of the smell of an orange, a lemon, and a grapefruit. Each has strong acidic notes mixed with sweetness. And yet each fresh, bright scent is distinguishable from its relatives. These fruits smell similar because they share many chemical compounds. How, then does the brain tell them apart? How does the brain remember a complex and often overlapping chemical signature as a particular scent?

Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) are using the fruit fly to discover how the brain integrates multiple signals to identify one unique smell. It's work that has broader implication for how flies - and ultimately, people - learn. In work published in Nature Neuroscience, a team led by Associate Professor Glenn Turner describes how a group of neurons in the fruit fly brain recognize multiple individual chemicals in combination in order to define, or remember, a single scent.

The olfactory system of a fruit fly begins at the equivalent of our nose, where a series of neurons sense and respond to very specific chemicals. These neurons pass their signal on to a group of cells called projection neurons. Then the signal undergoes a transformation as it is passed to a body of neurons in the fly brain called Kenyon cells.

A crazed fan of pop singer Justin Bieber has spent over $100,000 on cosmetic surgery in a bid to look more like the teen sensation.

Toby Sheldon, 33, has had numerous procedures done to look more like his idol, including Botox injections, hair transplants, chin liposuction, an eyelid lift and smile surgery.

Britain's Daily Mail spke with the wannabe, who said, "Once Justin shot to fame, his face was everywhere and I all I kept thinking when I saw his picture was, 'I want to look like him'."

Sheldon says he never really listened to Bieber's music, but his "flawless" face is what inspired him.

"By using Justin's charming baby face as my inspiration, I've been able to restructure my entire look to maintain a much more youthful appearance through plastic surgery," he tells the Mail.

Being in the public eye can cause a lot of headache along with the perks of fame, and Justin Bieber became the target of some official scrutiny recently.

This past weekend, a photo of the "Hold Tight" singer with a bottle of beer in his hand taken inside NOX Houston club drew the attention of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

After a complaint was filed, the Commission will investigate whether or not the Biebs was served alcohol, which could mean big problems for the club.

Folks in attendance were stunned with the number of people who showed up at the concert with Wizkid the headliner with guest appearances from label mates Skales, Niyola, Shaydee.

HEALTH: Attitudes, Perceptions And Misconceptions About Miscarriage

The majority of Americans inaccurately believe miscarriage is rare and misunderstand its causes, creating an often isolating and guilt-ridden experience for those who experience it. These are the findings in the first-ever national survey to assess attitudes and perceptions towards miscarriage, which was conducted by researchers at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. The study data was presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in Boston.

The survey of more than 1,000 women and men found 65 percent believe miscarriage is rare, when in reality it occurs in one in four pregnancies. While knowledge of miscarriage rates was low, respondents accurately assessed that it is traumatic, with 66 percent believing the emotional impact is severe and potentially equivalent to the loss of a child. Research shows understanding the cause of miscarriage can reduce feelings of guilt or blame; however, currently the origin is only identified in 19 percent of patients.

MOBO AWARDS 2013: Fuse ODG Wins Best African Act

Ghanaian singer, Fuse ODG, bagged the 2013 MOBO Award for Best African Act, beating Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Ice Prince & Seun Kuti to it.

The Event was held at the new £125 million Hydro arena last night. It also celebrates MOBO’s 18th birthday.
