Jay-Z
were pleasantly surprised last night when their hero decided to take the
Tube to his gig at London’s O2 Arena. More ordinarily associated with his
vast collection of Bugattis and Porsches, he showed that he was happy to
rely on London’s underground network to get him to the show on time.

Travelling with him from Waterloo station were Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, and Timbaland, his support act for his Magna Carta world tour. They were also both to join him on stage later that evening, to perform Ain’t No Love (In The Heart of the City).
Fans tweeted their shock at the sighting, with Twitter and Instagram exploding with excitement. Fan Jamie Robb, who revealed that Jay-Z also had an entourage of around 10 people in tow, tweeted saying, “What a riot… Just met Jay-Z on the Tube in London.”
Whilst many fans eagerly tweeted their delight at spotting the rapper, one fan named Fu Choi said that he was “too starstruck” to capture the moment on camera.
It is unknown whether Jay-Z opted for the tube due to an environmental conscience, a fear of inner city traffic congestion, or simply a desire to be amongst his adoring public – but this is not the first time he has used public transport to get to one of his concerts.
