Miley Cyrus hits double chart number one

Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has become the first artist this year to go to the top of the UK singles and album chart at the same time.

The 20-year-old pop star and former child actress tops the charts with the single Wrecking Ball, taken from new album Bangerz. Cyrus recently caused controversy with her raunchy performance at MTV Video Music Awards, in which she twerked with Blurred Lines singer Robin Thicke.
The video for Wrecking Ball broke records when it was released online, attracting over 19 million views in its first 24 hours.

Cyrus' chart success comes after weeks of headlines surrounding her contentious performances, videos and photo shoots. Fellow musician Sinead O'Connor has published open letters to the US star, imploring her not to be "exploited" by the music industry, and other musicians have weighed in with their own opinions on sexualisation in the business.

O'Connor wrote: "Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent."
