Jim Iyke - Why I went To The Synagogue

AFTER the video showing Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, in a deliverance session at the Synagogue Church of all Nations went viral, so many people have been reacting to the incident. While some thought it was a movie, others thought it was a mere publicity stunt by the church.

Ace filmmaker, Charles Novia, reacted to the deliverance session thus: ‘Jim has my best wishes. Good actor, he is. So, Jim Iyke got ‘delivered’ of an evil demon in a popular church recently? Mmn. Chai! Strange things happen. We go through a mid-life crisis one time or the other.
Genuine God discovery helps. For those sending me hateful tweets over this deliverance issue, you know the way to the church for yours.
I’m unfazed .

I do think, though, that Jim was brave to go for deliverance. It is a first step to a total recovery. I wish him well. Honestly, I do.”
Jim Iyke, however, did not feel comfortable that it went on the cameras and tweeted ‘I’m not insulting anyone. I just feel that ‘deliverance’ issues are personal, not with cameras and klieg lights. These Nollywood stars and the rush for ‘deliverance’. Dem need am sef. God save us producers from some of the demons we cast.

‘All I can say is that ‘whatever floats your boat, brother’. Better send those poor women you have dated to same church for same.’

However, Jim Iyke, who was more concerned about his salvation than what people had to say, explained his reason for going to the Synagogue. “It’s beautiful, that’s the least I can say. Nothing else truly matters; absolutely nothing. God liveth, whether you are a believer or not. Met more miserable billionaires than unhappy income earners. Success is relative. I want it wholesome. It is either you are bond or free’, he twitted.

HEALTH: Study Examines Various Treatments For Nose Bleeds

The way doctors treat nose bleeds (epistaxis), a condition that will affect about 60 percent of the population during their lifetime, varies greatly among patients seeking medical attention with no difference in outcomes, according to a study by Jennifer A. Villwock, M.D., and Kristin Jones, M.D., of the State University of New York-Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.

About 70 percent of nose bleeds occur spontaneously for reasons that range from unknown causes to cancerous lesions. While about 6 percent of patients with nose bleeds will require medical or surgical attention, very few people (less than 0.2 percent) will need to be hospitalized with a bleeding nose, according to the study background.

HEALTH: Sleep 'cleans' the brain of toxins

The brain uses sleep to wash away the waste toxins built up during a hard day's thinking, researchers have shown.

The US team believe the "waste removal system" is one of the fundamental reasons for sleep.
Their study, in the journal Science, showed brain cells shrink during sleep to open up the gaps between neurons and allow fluid to wash the brain clean.

They also suggest that failing to clear away some toxic proteins may play a role in brain disorders.
One big question for sleep researchers is why do animals sleep at all when it leaves them vulnerable to predators?

It has been shown to have a big role in the fixing of memories in the brain and learning, but a team at the University of Rochester Medical Centre believe that "housework" may be one of the primary reasons for sleep.

"The brain only has limited energy at its disposal and it appears that it must choose between two different functional states - awake and aware or asleep and cleaning up," said researcher Dr Maiken Nedergaard.
"You can think of it like having a house party. You can either entertain the guests or clean up the house, but you can't really do both at the same time."

Wizkid Praised Director Sesan Ogunro!

Starboy Wizkid has pitched his net with music director  Sesan Ogunro  despite the twitter feud between him and hiphop star Davido over the Skelewu video released over the weekend. He revealed his stand yesterday in a tweet praising Sesan for a fantastic job on his hit video, “Jaiye Jaiye” in September.
There has been a rumor of a cold war between Wizkid and Davido in the past but with his open declaration of support for the opposite camp, are we looking forward to a beef here?
Wizkid made it clear that Sesan’s work on his Jaiye Jaiye video  was perfect and perhaps, he doesn’t care what ‘anyone’ has to say or has already said.

Mary J. Blige Shares The Secret To Her Long Reign

In a conversation with Spin, Mary J. Blige is warm, polite, and considered. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is no less obliging to her fans, with whom she's shared a 21-year-long musical discussion. Fittingly, then, just in time for the holiday season, she has released a gift of sorts with her first yuletide LP, A Mary Christmas, produced by Celine Dion hitmaker David Foster. And while Blige acknowledged during the chat that the title's play on words was too good to pass up, the seasonally themed LP also invited a certain amount of year-'round introspection.

Mary J., 42, spoke with Spin about what it takes to wear the crown.

Read the conversation below:

I was conscious about not hurting myself to save the lives of my fans.

When I took control of my life and I said, "No more drama," it was during that time of the No More Drama album, when I was done with drugs, I was done with alcohol, I was done with living a life where I hated myself. I chose not only my life, but my fans, I chose them, too. People love Mary J. Blige, and if I hurt myself or commit suicide — because I was very suicidal then, before I said no more drama —my fans, that can hurt them. That can even kill some of them. So I made the shift thinking about not just my life, but four million people that came with me in this music business and said, "Mary, you saved our lives. We love you."

Katy Perry Debuts New Single 'Unconditionally'

Katy Perry's new song called "Unconditionally" has arrived online. Produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut, the new track has been confirmed as the second "Prism" single. It serves as the follow-up to chart-topping and platinum-selling lead single "Roar".

"It's a love song and it's different from 'Roar' - it's not eighth-notey," Perry said of the song during an interview several weeks ago. "And I think it's a universal love song that everyone's going to be able to relate to no matter the age, no matter male or female."

"Unconditionally" is a powerful love ballad that features Perry singing about loving her dearest one unconditionally. "Oh no, did I get too close?/ Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside?/ All your insecurities/ All the dirty laundry/ Never made me blink one time," she sings.

Perry is gearing up to release her "Prism" album, which is due out on October 22 via Capitol Records. The album will also include "Dark Horse" and "Walking on Air", two songs which have been released as promotional singles.

HEALTH: How To Avoid Body Odour

Dr. Olanrewaju Falodun, a consultant dermatologist at the National Hospital in Abuja, on Tuesday says the general perception that some people were born with body odour is wrong.

Dr. Falodun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that body odour was caused by the process of bacteria breaking down in the sweat, and the sweat causing the odour.

“There are two types of sweat glands in the body. These are the eccrine gland which is found all over the body, and the apocrine gland which is found primarily in the ancillary (armpit) and genital areas.

“The two sweat glands are usually connected to hair follicles, and much of the thing we call body odour is as a result of the apocrine gland.

“The glands do not mature or start functioning until when a person reaches the age of puberty, and that is why the real issues about odour are more pronounced after puberty,” he said.

Mr. Falodun says obesity also triggers body odour in people who are overweight, as the sweat is trapped between the folds of skin.

The dermatologist however says body odour can be prevented, as long as the person diligently maintained cleanliness of the body.

HEALTH: Smoking might influence pain tolerance

Smokers and former smokers are more sensitive to pain than non-smokers, according to conclusions drawn from the Norwegian Tromsø Study and presented at the Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC in Florence, Italy. "Until now, research into nicotine and pain has produced conflicting results. Some experimental studies have shown that smoking cigarettes and nicotine lessened sensitivity to pain, while observational studies have revealed that smokers were at higher risk of acute and chronic pain. Our aim was to investigate the association between smoker status and pain sensitivity," explained study author Dr Aslak Johansen of the University Hospital of North Norway, Tromsø.

10,364 people participated in the study. 22.1% of the women and 18.8% of the men who took part were smokers, while 38.6% of the women and 46.8% of the men were former smokers. Pain tolerance was assessed by the cold pressor test, using cold water.

Keshi wary of Ethiopia despite victory

Stephen Keshi
Nigerian coach Stephen Keshi said the Super Eagles are not overconfident after a 2-1 win in Ethiopia Sunday set up a probable fifth World Cup appearance, AFP reports.

An Emmanuel Emenike brace won the first leg of a playoff, leaving the Eagles needing just a draw at home next month to secure a place at the 2014 finals in Brazil.

“We still have to go play Ethiopia at home as if we never played them, and we’ll take it from there,”  he told reporters after the match in Addis Ababa.

Keshi commended the Walya Antelopes, who fought hard to keep up with the the Eagles in the first half only to tire down the final stretch.

“Ethiopia were awesome today – they played good,” he said amid lively celebrations from Nigerian supporters dancing and waving flags.

“We (went) with our game plan, we just wanted to see how Ethiopia play at home,”
Ethiopia came out strong in the first half with several goal attempts, including a shot deemed not to have crossed the line by the Cameroonian referee.

IRS Plane Crash-Lands in Kaduna

An IRS Airline plane narrowly escaped a crash yesterday when its landing system developed hydraulic failure as it began its descent into Kaduna airport.

The Plane crash-landed some minutes after 11am leaving about 100 passengers and crew members unhurt.

The plane which left Lagos at about 9: 45am was carrying passengers who are mostly businessmen and their families coming to Kaduna for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

Passengers said the faulty landing system forced the pilot to hover in the air for close to 40 minutes while he struggled to fix the problem.

The plane reportedly arrived in Kaduna around 9.45am, but could not land until minutes after 11am.

When the Kaduna airport was alerted, fire fighters were immediately deployed to prepare grounds for emergency landing. The runway was quickly covered with flame retardant form to prevent fire outbreak.
The pilot finally bumped the plane at the beginning of the tarmark but passengers were not allowed to disembark immediately until about 10 minutes after, and as they left the plane, they were instructed to run into nearby bush, fearing that there could be fire outbreak.

I look forward to taking on this challenge whole-heartedly."

Charlie Hunnam Drops Out Of 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'

Charlie Hunnam
After a long search, "Fifty Shades of Gray" needs a new Christian because it's fifty shades of "nay" for Charlie Hunnam.

The "Son of Anarchy" star withdrew from the project, officially naming an "immersive TV schedule" as his reason for pulling out prematurely.

"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," Universal Pictures said in a released statement.

But shortly after the official announcement from Universal, rumors began to circulate that there was another reason entirely behind the departure. The Hollywood Reporter cites multiple sources that claimed Hunnam got cold feet about the highly controversial adaptation and the pressure involved, or as Christian Grey might put it, performance anxiety.

Author E.L. James tweeted "I wish Charlie all the best x" reacting to the news, warning her followers beforehand that things were about to get "serious.

HEALTH: Causes & Treatment Of Bad Breath

Bad breath, or halitosis, is familiar to many people. Although precise epidemiological data are missing, some studies have suggested that bad breath may rank only behind dental cavities and periodontal diseases as the cause of patients’ visits to the dentist.

Experts are of the opinion that mouth odor is like any other body odor—the result of microbes living in the body giving off byproducts. In the mouth, this means bacteria that normally live in the mouth interact with food particles, blood, tissue, etc., to create volatile (i.e., stinky) sulfur compounds. If you don’t clean properly, the bacteria build up, and next thing you know—that’s not toothpaste on your tongue.
Speaking exclusively with LEADERSHIP, a dental surgeon with the Maitama General Hospital of the FCT Health Services, Dr. Godwin Nwafor, said that the root cause behind bad breath can range from banal, poor oral hygiene after meals, to potentially life-threatening, complications from diabetes and kidney failure.
He said that there are two major causes of bad breath, which are local and systemic causes, saying that local causes accounts for almost 90 per cent of all the causes of bad breath.

HEALTH: Cholera Emerging as a Driver of Progress in Public Health in Haiti

"We've struggled to improve Haiti's overall public health for decades," he added. "Now we arrive at a critical juncture where from the depths of a terrible epidemic there is an opportunity for Haiti to rise up to a new level of protection against infectious diseases," said Jon Andrus, MD, deputy director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The deadly cholera epidemic that rocked earthquake-shattered Haiti in 2010, claiming 8,000 lives and counting, has rallied the public health community to seek water and sewer improvements that, combined with vaccination, could prevent some 89,000 future cholera infections. These findings are among the many insights published this month in a special section of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene -- AJTMH and PAHO: Commemorating the 3rd Anniversary of the Cholera Outbreak in Haiti: Invited Papers documenting the public health response to the largest national cholera outbreak in modern history.
